Quick-Look Plots

On this page you can find a number of quick-look plots that provide a basic summary plot to verify that the site was working. As data are uploaded to WALDO these plots automatically update.

Broadband summary charts

Now for some actual data. These folders, sorted by site, show quick-look summary plots for each day. The broadband summary chart stitches together the first second of each hour in the day. An example is shown below, for the same day. If LF data are available (1 MHz sampling), the spectrogram extends to 125 kHz, although frequencies up to 470 kHz are captured by the data. If only VLF data are available (100 kHz sampling), the spectrogram will stop at 50 kHz. Most data on WALDO will be VLF, as LF is extremely large and is only kept for special purposes. Note, this is not a 24-hour-long spectrogram, but the first second of each hour (if available) is stitched together. This is a quick and easy way to evaluate the operation of the receiver and the noise environment, but more detailed analysis requires downloading the actual data.

Narrowband summary charts

The narrowband summary chart shows amplitude and phase, an example is shown below, again for Briarwood on 01-Jul-2016. The rows represent each transmitter-receiver path, as labeled in the top left corner. The four columns represent channel 0 amplitude, channel 0 phase, channel 1 amplitude, and channel 0 phase, in that order, over the 24-hour period. The colors simply indicate when software reboots took place, all of which were brief on this particular day. On this particular day, the NAU transmitter in Puerto Rico shut off from ~12-18 UT, a regular weekly maintenance. This is a quick and easy way to evaluate the operation of the receiver and the noise environment, but more detailed analysis requires downloading the actual data
